Made a really stupid decision and bought LED fogs off an F15 X5 this afternoon. Only $156 for the pair plus free shipping, so not a bad deal, but still.
I saw a thread on a different forum where a guy retrofitted these fogs into his NNBS Sierra and it worked but not without a lot of modifications to the housing.
My plan is to attempt to create some sort of mounting bracket and 3D print it so the new fogs can bolt/snap into the stock location, but I don’t think this is super likely. What I’ll likely end up doing is retrofitting the actual lighting unit into the stock housings or creating new housings around the lighting elements and 3D printing them.
To do this, I’ll be 3D scanning the stock receptacle, stock fog lamp housings, and new fogs. I have an app on my iPhone X that allows me to do this. From there I’ll have to convert the files to something I can work with in a modeling program and take mock something up from there, and then print it. I already have a crappy example scan of the fog light receptacle:
I’ve never 3D printed anything before, but I do have a decent amount of experience with solid modeling (Solidworks) so that should help me out. If anyone has any helpful suggestions please let me know.
There likely won’t be a ton of progress very soon, but I figured this would be a fun project I could do just for the hell of it. I’ll make sure to keep this thread updated as I work.
