It might be the actual unit.

If you won't mess up my trim you can put it in my truck and try it.

All you vss is is you vehicle speed sensor. All it does is tie into your computer to help you gps be mroe accurate for how fast you are moving and such. It has more to do with accuracy then actually get your signal. Sounds like you gps mount my be underneath metal or something. It will work through plastic but it may be installed improperly.

Since I updated to ver. 6.0c software my nav acts as it should 95% of the time. What I mean by this is the North arrow actually is pointing North and the screen map rotates so it shows the actual direction I am traveling....curves and everything. I have noted that at slow speeds when I am changing directions it does not keep up but once I am traveling at normal speeds on the streets it again acts as it should. This leads me to believe that the problem all along has been in software and not the antenna. The VSS wire on my unit still seems to have little or no effect on tracking, but I am starting to wonder if it may be due to a poor connection. I plan on taking things loose under the dash next week so I can verify the connection. I will post my findings here.

I am having the same issue with my Nav so I installed the VSS cable and it did not help at all. Right now I am just living with it. Oh, I even did the software update to 2010. It worked great at first then it went back to its old ways.
