would that relay fix affect the reverse lights? I just noticed I don't have backup light function on these new led tails

Try rotating the LED bulb 180 degrees, the positive backup light wire has to go to the side of the LED bulb with a red dot. Another improvement is gained by having all LED segments illuminate for backup bulb use. This is done by moving the bulbs' little silver tail light wires to the same side of the LED bulb as the brake light wires, all segment illuminate for max light output.
