In my experience its a bad cat. If you're in CA be careful which one you buy. I bought one from Autozone and when i smogged it the tech said it was for the 7.4 liter. I did find another smog place that passed me with it though.

Is that the catalytic converter? If so do I suffer any performance loss or is it strictly for emissions? thanks for the heads up

It can hurt your performance. Its not too expensive to get it fixed unless you're in CA. The cheapest option might be to buy one online and have a muffler shop weld it in. They do make bolt on assembly's for 300-400 bucks that you could do yourself with out welding.

I just bought one online and welded it on myself. Cost about 150$ Its a good idea to do both. It will save you in the long run. The other cat is going bad on mine and I wish I would have done them both at the same time.

or depending on if you live someplace that requires emissions id go catless because having them hinders performance some and having one clogged will hurt performance but not having anyat all improves

Well that's good news, because I came from Washington with this rig to here in Montana and upon registering they never said one thing about emissions not once. I'll be glad to take off the Catalytic converter if that's all it does , and in return improved performance? very much so thank you. I mean thank you very much!
