Feeling the engine switch from v4 to v8?

Right before I come to a full stop the engine switch from v4 to v8. I feel something in the front end move, or maybe down shifting hard.

Also the rpm goes up to 1k then drops again.

is this normal?

My '09 downshifts kind of rough in that same situation. Feels like the 3-2, or 2-1 shift. Even lurches a bit. Friends have told me that is fairly common with the then-new A6 trannies.

And why doesn't the engine stay in v4 while idling? My 2015 does this too.
