So I picked up this 95 Tahoe a few weeks ago and did some minor things to it while waiting for payday to get it registered. I have about 100 or so miles on it and starting to get a few things to work on. It has been parked a lot inside since 2011 so I figured there will be a few things crop up.

First, yesterday morning and this morning I get in , hit the key and no starter. Good voltage, good lights, everything works but no starter. I noticed the positive side post was loose so I took it off and found corrosion on the cable ends. I ended up have to cut the plastic insulators from the connector just to make a good connection at the battery. Put it back together and worked great, until this morning. Same thing happened. The negative looks good & clean. A few trys later she took off and has been fine since. I did tap on the starter in case the brushes were stuck but that didn't do anything. Next thing is to go underneath and check out the starter connections I suppose. The previous owner had the starter replaced in 2010 IIRC. It looks almost new yet, but that don't mean much these days.

Should these run on a fast idle when cold? When I start it cold(overnight, -10* to 10*) it starts and runs at about 650-700 rpm. But it rich, almost to where it wants to lope. Clears up as soon as it warms up. Does this sound right?

And I think I'm going to have to do something with either a/c clutch of the whole compressor. It started when I brought it home, where the clutch was sorta grinding and couldn't engage. I disconnected the compressor but today it started doing it again so either there is a piece of crap in the clutch or something is going on. Feels good when you turn it by hand. ???

the cable thing happened to me when I first got mine, had to replace the cables and battery terminals. It should fast idle when cold, that's normal. The AC clutch is changable but it will reach a point where you need to replace the whole thing, I replaced mine last season, the back side was all chewed up.

its not necessarily a good battery just cause it holds a charge. If its not putting out the correct amount of amps it wont matter how charged it is.

True. I do have another I can swap in there, maybe I'll do that in the morning.
