I recently painted my steel cowl induction hood. I sanded it, put primer on it, sanded it some more, painted it black, and sprayed duplicolor effex on it. It hasn't been touched since then. It's not show quality, but it looks pretty decent. My question is in the final step. I want to smooth the surface and polish it. Should I clay bar it then polish or wet sand it, buff it, then polish it ? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Wet sand buff then glaze then wax. If you have the time multiple stage the wet sand 1000-1500-2000. Be careful with 1000 if you have less than 3 hands of clear a rubber squeegee helps. Lots of water don't let it get dry.

What are some good suggestions of combinations that work together well for buffing, glazing, and waxing products in your opinion ?

Stick with 3m they have small sizes.
Get the perfect it compound.
You don't have to glaze I just thought you had it available. Most wont be able to tell the difference.
The 3m perfect it wax is great. Comes off easy. Nice for all colors and won't wash away.

Just compound and wax. You will like the results. If you have to do this by hand and dont have rotary machine sand with only 2000. You can hand buff out 2000.
