As long as the vehicle is under warranty I always follow the owners manual. Currently have 2500 miles on it and oil life says 66%

When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message displays, have the engine oil and filter changed within the next 1 000 km/600 mi. If driven under the best conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate the need for vehicle service for up to a year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and the oil life system must be reset. Your trained dealer technician can perform this work. If the engine oil life system is reset accidentally, service the vehicle within 5 000 km/3,000 mi since the last service. Reset the oil life system when the oil is changed. See Engine Oil Life System.

Engine Oil Life System
When To Change Engine Oil
This vehicle has a computer system that indicates when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on a combination of factors which include engine revolutions, engine temperature, and miles driven. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change is indicated can vary considerably. For the oil life system to work properly, the system must be reset every time the oil is changed.

Never abide solely by the oil life monitor/manual. 6000 miles is the max I'd go with full synthetic, regardless of how much life is left on the OLM, especially with the lighter 0w20 oil used. Further, I'll be doing the first oil change before 1000 miles, to get the machining leftovers out of the enginge sooner rather than later.

If you like throwing money down the drain, sure change the oil sooner, but advances in oil technology are really good, especially if you believe in science. 7500 miles and it says to just check if oil needs change. And owners manual says you can go all the way down to scheduling service within 1000 miles when the change oil soon light comes on. We'll be doing probably 10 to 20% left on oil life monitor.

First oil change was at 4256 miles.
Wanted to do it sooner but a California dealer rejected service.(too soon apparently) Came back home got it done, along with a recall. :emotions34:

Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard of a dealer rejecting service -- interesting strategy there.

lol ... they just didn’t want to validate the complimentary first oil change provided by GM. Wanted me to pay out of pocket. At time the vehicle had (2745miles)

Gotcha. I took mine in at 733 miles for first service. They asked me whether I wanted to use my complimentary service now or save it until tire rotation -- I told them we could wait. I am weird though -- I provide my own oil and filter, and they charge me $11 labor.

Id pay $11 bucks in labor for an oil change, thats a deal. Better than having to lug the oil around to an auto parts store to dispose of it.
