Dunno, haven’t had a gas engine in a while, seems little dark for 700 miles.
may be perfectly fine but expected lighter.

anyone know if factory fill on 5.3 for Yukon is actually synthetic ?

Not entirely sure what the OEM oil is....I thought the days of break-in oil were done, but I could be wrong. Coming from the generator world, I know that a lot of newer GM motors come with special oil from the factory. Cars and trucks may be different, not sure.

However, most newer vehicles have a RICH calibration for the first X# of miles. This is allowed to let the engine break in without running too lean and scoring a piston.

Did your mpg suck for the first few tanks? I'd run it for 5k with a good oil and OEM filter and try again. If it's THAT new, maybe 3k

I am confused. Is this a new rig? Is in 2007-2014 section. First oil change since you bought this from another person or car lot? Can't tell much of anything with oil in a pan like that.

Thanks, Just noticed I’m in the 2014 section. not sure how to move it to > 2021

I see 21MPG on highway, but you may be right. just be a bit richer first few hundred miles indeed. i’ll drop it again at 3000 miles. put in a full synthetic. Just have 700 miles on it.

picked it up a week ago. engine runs like a sewing machine. can’t believe how quiet it is.

Hopefully a mod can move the thread and yes, I would expect the first oil change to be darker and use synthetic oil moving forward.

New GM cars do NOT have break in oil. What you get on your first oil change is what came from the factory.

I had our first oil change done at 5K miles and checked the oil level about every thousand miles up to that point. The oil on the dipstick looked basically like new clean oil for most of those miles. I would not expect engine oil to look that dark on any gas engine at 700 miles

No I don’t look at that ever or care in the slightest bit what it says. I change oil at 5k on all my vehicles whether they be gas or diesel or run synthetic or conventional. Haven’t had a major engine problem yet in 36 years of driving
