First post here - hope one of y'all can help. 1999 tahoe - need to replace power steering pump. Bought refurbished one from autozone. Got the old pump off.
Noticed that the "studs" on the old pump appear to be threaded into nuts that are welded to the pump. Cannot figure out how to get these studs off the old pump.
Second, the one that was on there has that EVO system - and a metal fitting which threads into the pump. The "new" pump doesn't have this metal fitting at all. From searching on these forums, I understand that GM came out with a U shaped part that I guess replaces that evo system?
ALso - I don't see how you would thread on or off the metal arm that contains the evo part - the hydraulic fluid return line is in the way? Maybe I'm just missing something?
So... to the questions:
1) Is it possible to buy a pump with the "old" fitting to keep the evo system? Or is it better to replace it / eliminate it? I presume the U shaped part I have seen referred to on here is what is used to connect the high pressure line to the rear of the pump?
2) Am I missing something in terms of getting the mounting studs out of the old pump? If not - where do I get those?
Sorry if these are stupid questions - hope someone can help. Thanks!
