Why does the manual say not to alternate frequently between using e85 and regular gasoline?

what harm does that do?

Just don't run both tests at the same time duhhhhh. If you run e85 run it to empty and then put in 87oct. If you run 87oct run it to empty then do e85, other then that I don't know?

None as far as I know. Some people mix the two. I personally run the tank dry if I am going to switch but I run E85 95% of the time.

Have you done the math and is the E85 actually cheaper on a $/mile basis, or are you using E85 as a matter of personal preference?

Financially it's a wash, E85 is cheaper but 25% less efficient on average. Here in AZ 91 octane is $3.11/gal and E85 is $2.49(19% less) so I actually lose a little tiny bit of cash but not much. It is mostly personal preference the power is increase is very noticeable especially with my BB tune and I don't think it's any "greener" BUT it is made with american grown corn and it decreases our dependence on foreign oil and that is them man reason(well after more power at the pedal) I drive an extra 2mi to fill up with E85. To be honest my truck and I can only comment on my truck, runs better on E85 overall.
