I have a 2000 yukon with rear electronic climate control, i really dont mind losing the rear control functionality as i can still control it up front... but my concern is, what am i going to run in to up there when i pull that little console off and look above the roof liner? also how do i combat the molded roof liner without having huge ugly gaps and stuff?

(i went a little overboard and ordered a 17" lcd from ebay, it's a bit bigger than i should have gone :p)

I got this all mounted up tonight, went alright, i had to rip apart the rear hvac and just plug the harness in to the one circuit board while i was able to disconnect and remove the board the knobs are connected to, so it's just one small circuitboard floating around in my roof liner, which allows me to retain control fo the rear from the front controls.

the only negative i have to say about this whole thing thus far is the fact that the hvac already had a hole in the liner, so i had to put the screen a little farther back than i wanted, just to cover the hole, but it's not a big deal... the other thing is the front corners have a HUGE gap... but that's because i bouht a cheap monitor from ebay without a bezel, but i figure i'll just get some thick rubber and cut it to the contour of the roof, and glue it to the inside of the screen's casing, so it kind of closes the gap... but it's not too terrible as it is. Also i had to cut the roof liner, which, with the rear hvac, i cant imagine would be cheap to replace, so i was really hoping to avoid doing that... but that's fine, i intend to have the truck until it goes to the wreckers.

all i have to do now is finish putting in my 1000w power inverter below the front lower console (and install the plugs etc...), and then reinstall the front lower console, which i modified to put my dvd player in the CD "pocket"... then i still have my second battery to install and i am done... for now :)

I am done already, didn't remember to take pictures, and no, using the hvac wires to power the screen is a bad idea... in my screen the video/power wire were all in one line, which MADE you run the power down to the dash, which is the right way to do it anyways...

for the power i ran the negative to a ground, and the positive to a switched 12v on my dvd player, so the screen can only be turned on when the dvd player is on (to hopefully prevent battery drain and avoid interruption when the vehicle is powered on/off)

if i can find my camera i will take some pictures of the completed install.

here are some pics of the installed unit, pics may be not be very good as i took them with my iPhone

Here's the gap i was referring it, as you can see, it's pretty bad at the front, but unnoticable from the rear, (which is where anybody looking at the screen would be anyways)

and my dvd player installed in the cd tray

and a shot of the screen from the back bumper of the truck

Also some pics of my 1000w inverter installed... the white on the plugs is super glue residue (used to hold the receptacles in) it'll be cleaned up later, i just didn't have time to do the final touches.

front receptacle can be seen in the dvd player photo above, here's the rear

i also did the second battery install, but it's really ugly right now, i didn't mount it properly so I am not going to post pictures of it... once i re-do it properly i'll post them.
