Hi,

So I have a buddy on another forum who's considering an interesting mod ...

I thought I'd help him out by asking you guys if you think it's feasible/possible.

He really likes the Camaro remote key fob: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-CHEVY-...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a6cfd6f4c

Is there any way that it can be programmed/modified to work on our trucks?

He's also got a hybrid, so even though the Camaro fob has the trunk release it would become a 'dead' button as we don't have the liftgate release ... all the other options are the same as in the Camaro in regards to the fob.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi all, first time posting on this forum even though I have been creeping for weeks!

Serge was kind enough to post the question for me, and i decided to join so i can get in on the conversation too.

Here is another pic of the fob...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-CHEVR...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2a164f6e77

Im wondering if the frequency/transponder chip/remote starter button etc. will be compatible with Tahoes/suburbans?

I'm very interested on what the variables are with these remotes.

It may be that the keys themselves are different lengths/widths which would make this very difficult ... cause either our key will be too big for the fob or the fob key will be too small for the ignition. And that's assuming that the key chip can get programmed with the Tahoe codes.

I'm thinking the fob itself shouldn't be a major issue if one can find someone to reprogram it. GM service managers aren't known for thinking out of the box.

I dunno ...

Welcome aboard Pete! :)

Sorry Serge, it's not going to work.
The Tahoe only recognizes a particular RF signal from certain fobs (the designated fobs), other fobs will not function at all.
In the past some members (including me) have wanted to get the 2010 and up Escalade fobs but could not due to that issue. For what I found out, even an 08 Escalade cannot use the 2010 Escalade remote.

Hi neo,

Is there no way to somehow hack into the fob and change its radio frequency?
I mean those things are set at said frequency through some method.

Hmmm...interesting point. I assumed that any size differences could be taken care of when the new key blank is cut.
Not sure how receptive dealerships will be to programming the camaro fob?

A few days ago i noticed that the keys to one of my employees 7 year old malibu were very similar to that of my 09 Tahoe! :Boo:

Now that you mention it that may be possible if you could find the RF receiver but the BCM may not recognize the Camaro or Esky receiver.
I don't know why GM made the fobs so ugly. I switch mine out with a new one every once in a while because I hate how they look all used and messed up.

Very true about the plastic on the key/remote wearing out within months.

It *Might* be possible that the camaro remotes run the same frequency as the Tahoes right?

Pete I think that the first step, since they're not that expensive, is to buy one. Or at least find a Camaro owner with one so you can compare the key sizes. If those are different then there's no need to cross the RF bridge. The fob mechanism/geometry in the Camaro one is so different that it's highly unlikely you'd be able to make your existing key work with it.

I'm thinking this through correctly?
