The shop that installed the fog lights checked the battery and ruled that out. They think it has something to do with the fuse box since it didn't want to start after connecting the wiring for the fog lights to the fuse box. I was thinking the battery or alternator, but the truck didn't start right after installing the fog lights.
No report back but they checked the battery in what manner? a load test? or what, the only thing that makes a starter make "click click click" generally is low voltage, so if it's not the battery then it's cables, maybe.....a bad starter motor
either way it's easy to figure out by doing to a voltage drop test.
if the voltage drops below 10.5 to the starter, then bad cables or battery or there is a severe short somewhere because the starter connects directly to the battery.
if the voltage is above 10.5v at the starter then it's bad or stuck or bad starter solenoid (if the later was the case it most likely would not click)
generally when a starter goes bad it does not "click" it just flat out won't work
if the fuse box was the issue the starter would not click, the clicking noise is the starter solenoid engaging but there is not enough voltage/amperage to make the starter motor spin
