Ok, the cable came and I got the factory backup cam operational. And I had to re-disable interface 8836 to make it work.

And that's it! It's a keeper.

Glad to see your liking it so far JJ351!

Any new updates since you have had it installed for a few days now?

Also another quick question when you back up are you getting the backup sensor noises through the radio speakers that alert how close you are to things?

let us know.

Thanks

I haven't even snapped it back to the console yet. I was wondering if I should add anything else while I still have it apart, like front-end car parking sensors (good for lifted trucks) or cameras. There's so many options from the harness I just don't want to miss out on anything I might want later. Meanwhile, I returned the rear entertainment cable because I can't imagine EVER using it; As I stated before, it's obsolete technology. The screen resolution too small at that distance for practical purposes in light of $50 (slickdeals alert) 1280 × 800 8" Fire tablets you can hold in your hand, Alexa enabled, with touch input and bluetooth. I never even heard of IR headphones before this, and I own over 5 bluetooth headphones already.

In the meantime, I regret the TPMS package I purchased. I'm simply not ready to pay to have new TPMS sensors installed ($120) if I'm not replacing my tires. That's all native console warnings only anyway. The stock radio was immune to it. In fact, I was thinking about taking a trip up to Walnut where Phoenix Automotive is (I'm in CA) to return the TV tuner/TPMS and unused cables (that I purchased to make work), in exchange for a carplay module (
) because the wireless option is just "Easy Connect", an app you can download that ironically displays its interface in landscape mode (not good for portrait view Tesla style radios), because I have another car so I'm not in a hurry.

So, I like it, with caveats. Like I can't seem to save AM talk radio stations. But that's what iheart radio is for.

Btw, the app Tasker will help enable hotspot on your phone when it's connected to your car's bluetooth (
) This is a necessity in that you'll want the same functionality you've come to know with any touch tablet.

I have unlimited cell data but no longer a wifi hotspot plan on my iphone. Is that the only way to have XM work? via the App which would need wifi?

My 09 Yukon has factory Nav, cam, and dvd. I just want my nav to work (Apple Car Play is fine) , cam and wouldn't mind adding a front camera. Im afraid of all these things like no ac on remote start, door chime etc.

If I get one I will be wrapping it silver to match my vents etc

Looking forward to a review!

You can use your xm app on your unlimited phone and play it via Bluetooth, CarPlay or aux cable.

After getting plenty of time to get used to the unit what's your review of it?

I wish I could spend more time with it, but I think it's a fair deal and would do it again. It certainly made an impression with my GF. Soundwise it's indistinguishable, maybe even better after fine-tuning the sound with the EQ. (I like the sliders to look like a wide-angle V)

Pros:
It's clean looking. Totally looks factory. No fitment issues, snapped in without any gaps, etc.

It's a gd 12" vertical Android tablet in your truck, and all that goes with it. Nuff said.

The hardware is competent. Way better than the vids of the older version I saw.

Impressive. Everyone who sees it will ask about it.

Cons:
Glossy screen. (A.)You'll need polarized sunglasses if you want to see it under certain daylight conditions. (B.)Leaves fingerprints. (C.)Could use a daylight sensor to auto-adjust brightness.

Tiny in-screen buttons. Everything should be jumbo-size. I haven't yet, but I should enable audio feedback to know if I hit a button while driving. I learned to use steering wheel controls for the first time for the radio. Which brings me too...

Call button on steering wheel seems to be disabled. There's a button map in the menu but haven't gotten around to messing with it.

Needs to have better a better Android Auto app (called Easy Connect), which is just a mirror of your phone's screen. I've gotten around that by enabling hotspot on my cell, but some folks may not have that option.

I'm hoping a later firmware release takes care of some of these, but I'm not holding my breath. Perhaps there are some settings left to be explored (four settings page layers, btw.)

Other than that I've been thinking about doing one of those wireless charger console lid mods, as that's the only place I want my phone now.

edit: Holy shit they sell a kit: https://boostautoparts.com/products...r&utm_medium=Description&utm_campaign=YouTube

Last night I decided to do some searching about Wireless Android Auto and came upon an app called Headunit Reloaded: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gb.xxy.hr&hl=en_US

It appears to be a solution for those with tablets in their cars. There's even an XDA thread about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348

I'll update when I get a chance to play around with it.

Btw, how's everyone else doing with their orders/installs? Speak up!

I just ordered one as well. I'm looking forward to getting it installed. I ordered it with android auto installed. The earlier comments that said the android auto weren't usable were not using android auto. They were using the easy connect app which is worthless. I'll add a review once it's in.

I'm eagerly awaiting your review. Does your truck have the rear seat entertainment system? One of my concerns is that last time I talked to them, weren't supporting the rear screrens.
