The Amazon Fire stick, the Roku, the Chromecast need wifi also to run. Even the Apple TV needs it to use all the apps on it. If you're an apple users you can do peer to peer AirPlay to mirror your iPhone no extra wifi needed. If you're an android user I would look into the Microsoft mirror cast. Again no wifi needed to mirror your device.

You can use your iPhone as a wifi hotspot and drive a stick etc off that.

You could, but you can't stream from the device and use it at a hotspot at the same time.

Wouldn't need to. Id either steam directly from the my device to the screen or turn on hotspot and they can stream to screen from another device (iPads, Stick, Roku etc) by doing this I also don't need to add a new (inferior) 4G/LTE plan to onstar. I can just bump up my Verizon data plan a bit.

I got 10 gigs good for a year from onstar plus the 3 free they give you for $100. Plus it's AT&T.
I use kodi and other movie streaming apps on my devices so most of the time I just use peer to peer AirPlay from my iPhone to my Apple TV.

Ok so I got the HDMI to composite and plugged in an Amazon stick. It works! The issue is that the picture is pretty crappy...I know it will be lower resolution but there is a decent amount of noise/lines...thoughts? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1465513185.645234.jpg

Could be the HDMI to RCA converter you're using. I had an issue with the one from radio shack. Also keep in mind you are going from 1080 down to 480
