From Lexus to Chevy?

Hi all!

I am debating moving from Lexus to Chevy. I haven't been in Lexus long, but have driven Toyotas for 20 years.

I have a new GX550 Lux+ and it is just too small and uncomfortable. I thought it would be perfect coming from 4Runners, but no.

So I started looking and saw the new refreshed Tahoe for 2025. So I now seriously considering moving from the GX550 to a High Country 2025 Tahoe with Diesel.


Am I making a solid choice here or asking from problems?

Hey- you’ll have to wait a bit. diesel not in production yet. someone will chime in. never owned a lexus myself but you’ll like the Tahoe I’m sure.

Well, the GX550 seems cramped compared to 4Runner. Things have popped up I did not notice on the short test drive.

The second row captain seats do not move. Cramped. Hardly any storage up front to speak of. Doesn't even have a space for sunglasses. The cool box center console is laughably small and useless. Gas milage is bad (which is OK) but the darn gas tank is tiny and I'm refilling every 250/300 miles. Tahoe with diesel would become the family trip hauler, currently that is a Lexus TX350. Nothing on there like the Chevy Cruise which looks nice. I do have a boat (24 Pair Custom) and the Tahoe would probably handle better. The Mark Levinson sound system SUCKS! The top of the interior doors are pointed and extremely uncomfortable to rest my arm, I have a bean bag I put in place now to help.

I'm just nervous to get into something that might give me issues. I won't keep anything more than 5/6 years and will always buy the extended warranty.

Sorry, I think you took my question wrong. I was thinking a Toyota Sequoia would be bigger. I love Chevy's but if I did not own Chevy's, I would own a Toyota product.

Does sound like you have your heart set on a diesel powered big SUV though.

I understand your issue with the size of the GX. I have a '23 GX460 which I bought because I thought I entered a period in life where I could go a bit smaller. Turns out I was wrong. So I am also waiting on the diesels to start production, as that seems to be the safest choice and it gets awesome MPGs. While the 460 is solid as a rock it is just too small re: storage and people carrying.

I am going with either a Suburban or a Yukon XL. After reading hundreds of posts here, I haven't seen one person say they wish they got the Tahoe/regular Yukon instead of the Suburban/Yukon XL. But I have seen the inverse. Some will say that the Suburban/Yukon XL is too large to easily maneuver, but I drove an F150 crew cab with a 6.5' bed for 10 years and that was almost 2 feet longer than the Suburban/Yukon XL. That was a pain to park anywhere. But in my test drives of the Yukon XL, I didn't feel that there would be any problems like that.

And to "that guy", , I compared the GX and the LX and honestly, it doesn't feel like the LX has much more room. Definitely not enough to justify $30-40k more than a GX and nowhere close to a Suburban/Yukon XL.

I have had a lot of toyotas... and a few Lexus. i had the old 400 lexus. good and solid. but you had to take off the intake to change out the starter.. not great. have had three yukon/tahoes. solid. not much difference in reliability for me. had several toy trucks. lots of rear and trans issues.

i would have gotten a diesel.. in the 24 yukon. i am not diesel fan. as an example.. i had a VW which needed glow plugs.. i usually waited to do all four at once.. so i wait till two where out. got the plugs.. took them out of cylinders.. the last one.. would not come out. big chunk of deposit on it. had to remove the head... that is why i do not like diesels. they get better mileage.. but nobody really tells you how much work they are to keep running. also.. you have to keep up with DEF. it is a menace. i do not like messing with it either..

i am happy with the 5.3. a good motor. not a hot rod. cyberbyte to disable the AFM.. and run 89 or 90 octane and it will do all you want.

I drove smaller SUV's such as Jeep Grand Cherokee, et cetera, for a fair share of my life. Once I got the Yukon, the space is absolutely intoxicating.. Space that we never thought we would ever use and now can't live without.

As long as they keep the diesel option, it's probably the only thing I'll drive. My 2021 has been pretty flawless., and I'm expecting the same from my 2025 I have on order. It's the best road vehicle I ever had and the combination with the Duramax both range and MPG is really unmatched.
