Front axle issue

Just picked up an 03 z71 suburban. I have done some research on the forum. I knew it needed some work but have a question. The passenger side front axle can be pulled out of the differential about an inch or so and it's (not freshly) wet in the area. It also makes a banging noise when turning. Does this sound like the axle is bad or the differential is messed up. I'm thinking a c clip came off inside. It is going to get looked at tomorrow along with an estimate for a leaking water pump and u joints (squeaking). The truck is very clean and I bought it expecting to fix things. Thanks

I saw that when I was looking on here too. Wonder what the cost is, hopefully cheaper than my trailblazer ss with the axle going through the oil pan! Thanks
