Definitely feel like #2 is the case. Just bad/cheap plastic from the factory

I agree, furthermore it should be evident to GM that the plastic should be reasonably resistant to chemicals as it is very common to use Windex on windows and windshields.

^^^
This, plus I feel like the fasteners might have been over torqued from the factory. The revised part is reinforced which tells me the first design was incorrect. My 2010 Tahoe has the crack at the corner of the passenger airbag which leads straight to the fastener.

It because it is plastic, The Buick, and caddy's do not have this Plastic, so until the Plastic in the Yukon, Camaro is replaced I no longer see either in my collection....

I was denied on my 2008, the GM customer service person I spoke with seemed like they were interested in helping, but figured out that they wanted me to take it to my "preferred dealership" to start the process. The catch, the dealership charges a $99 diagnostic fee to just look at a vehicle. F that! i told them I am not paying a dime for them to tell me my dash is cracked. Spoke to another dealership and they flat out told me that unless it was under warranty GM no longer Goodwills dashes on Chevy full size SUVs. Sure enough GM came back and said I was SOL.

$600ish for a new dash and 6 hours of labor is what I was told it costs to do this out of pocket.

I bought my Tahoe used for $18K, so I am not sweating the crack too much, but I feel bad for you guys who paid 40K or more for your truck

I am almost wondering if my Tahoe has had the dash changed. The dash looks newer than many of the other parts, like the door panels and the airbag look older... I cannot tell the difference in the trim piece by the windshield and the dash itself.

Although I will contend that many cleaners people use on cars are really not good for plastics, the design of the hard plastic dash panel actually sucks to have this happen as often as it does. My Buick Rainer at least had a soft vinyl coating on it, I thought this had it too by looking at it, to my surprise it is a molded hard plastic. I suspect they did not allow for expansion and contraction in the design and when the sun heats up the dash, or a cold cold day, it causes the stress cracks because the screws are too tight or the pins that align the piece do not have enough wiggle room to allow the movement.

Notice that the cracks happen apparently the same place on either side of the dash.

Has anyone considered taking the car to an upholstery shop and have them put a layer of Vinyl on the dash? Tuck the edges under the plastic panels...

I have a 95 TA with 45 ,*** miles on it and it is fine, Now my 2000 WS6 with 34,*** on it has a cracked dash, door panels, the seat bolsters do not work , the t top pillar has bubbles in the clear, My 07 Yukon XL has a crack dash by the Air Bag , that's a Safety issue, this should be a RECALL, the seats move when they want too, the sun roof leaks, the upper console leaks, the CD never ejects before 5 mins, and I also have the solenoid pump from the gas filler code. Thank YOU GM for helping me to decide which name to stay away from when I purchase my next vehicle......

^ that looks like a decent low cost solution. I'd like to see one in person. I'm pretty meticulous.
