Replacing front differential seal on my 2008 Chevy Tahoe I have the output shaft out and I noticed the ring that sits on the axle stayed into the differential when I pull the shaft out is this normal I know it’s sitting in the groove inside. Just wondering if anyone has seen this.

Yes that is normal for the driver side. The snap ring stays in the housing. Then when you slide the half shaft back in it should clip in place / catch the snap ring. I probably have some pictures...
My camera didn't focus well, I believe that it towards rear of bore. If it's not there / fell off in case, then you have to pull the diff and fish it back out.
Heads up, the passenger side is much different. You have to take the housing off to rebuild that side but looks like you're doing the driver side.

Yes it locked back in when I reinstalled it.
Left side still dry, have 117,000 miles on it. Also did my transmission and transfer case. Thank you so much for the reply!

I'm confused, as usual. Is the seal you replaced on the driver's side (left), or the passenger side (the right)?
