2007 GMC Yukon XL 5.3L - 203,000 miles.

My Front Differential housing broke, after a bolt broke and then I used the 4WD and it twisted. Do I go with a salvage yard differential ($500) or a Reman($1400)? Just wondering if anyone has done either or?

Thanks for any advice.

What’s the overall vehicle condition, and what’s your plans for it? Is it a forever vehicle, a beater on the way down, or something in between?

I broke the housing on my 02 due being an idiot and going WOT in reverse from a stop. I bought a Cardone reman from RockAuto for about $800. I was very happy with it. Still going strong after a year. I’m running a supercharged, cammed 6.0.

Edit: I just checked snd it’s $1500 now.

Salvage yard diffs come with a warranty if it's LKQ for example. Make sure you get one with the right gears if you don't want to change them.

That's a pretty rare problem to have on these, unless like Rocket Man, you throw 600hp through it in reverse :p. My bet is if you get a lower mileage A-grade part from one of the yards on car-part.com, you'll never have another problem. Just replace the diff mounts with new ones when you do it.

Would the assembly from a Gen2 fit in the Gen3? Might give more options.
