Last summer I had a rattle and some play in the front end, wound up replacing outer tie rod ends, 2 idler arms, 2 sway bar links got a wheel alignment and I was good to go for two weeks when I heard a new rattle when I hit bumps turned out it was the right side ball joint. So I had that replaced and being I had a warranty on the wheel alignment they did it for free.

Long story short now I am being told the pitman arm is no good and that its close to a 3 hour job. Is this true? And if and when I get it done what else should I have done when its apart?

Are u doing the work?If so change the rubber that's on the steering shaft at
the gearbox BUT if u don't have the tools have a shop do it. Just last month I put
my old wheels& tires back on and the alignment was off I had worn parts they said

So I replaced gear box,pitman arm,idler arm &the frame mounted one,and that
rubber donut its been on there sense the truck was made 1995 so it was soft
most of these parts I changed in jan & march of this yr. Good thing all had
lifetime warranty. I say my steering is at 95% too factory I love it.

No I have to have someone do it, any chance you have the part numbers for the gear box, pitman arm, and rubber donut?

Yup book value is probably close to 3 hrs... You have to remove the skid plate (4 bolts), unbolt the steering box (3 bolts), undo the pitman arm nut and steering gear nut (1 each), break the tapper at the center shaft and use a pitman arm puller to pull it off. Installation is reverse. Honestly as a auto technician I can do it in 30 minutes...

Honestly from the sounds of the service you are getting. Them not finding that upper ball joint when they did their first front end check, I would find another shop to inspect and quote your front end problems.
