I'm getting ready to replace the inner and outer tie rods, idler and pitman arms on my 2wd 06. Any advice or surprises if you came across any would be welcomed here. Thanks!

jack and the proper tools. Other than that I would say I hope your close to an allignment shop. I did both at the same time on my 02 and man was that a hairy arse ride to the shop and its was only 2 miles down the road. The truck was pulling left and right and I had a gorilla grip on that bad boy the tires were so out of allignment it sounded like I was draggin a locked wheel all the way their... But it only took me 45 minutes to get them all swapped out in my garage.

I'm planning a rebuild on my Escalade's suspension this spring.

One thing I plan on doing when replacing the tie rod ends is measuring the length of the innner and outer rods as assembled on the truck now, match the replacement set length as close to the originals as possible to avoid the wheels being toe'd in or out excessively.

Always count the threads.... I never have too much of an issue when I do that. Good luck on the pitman arm, that thing was a bastard on my 2000 Silverado I had to use a torch to loosen it up and you could see the puller flexing.

I always measure like wake said and it always gets you in the ballpark. When the shop gave me the alignment printout i wasn`t too far off. One side was almost perfect.

Another thing i do is spray the threads with some rust penetrant like PB blaster a few days before you plan on changing them to make removal easier.

When I replaced the pitman arm on my Dodge 2500 I had to take a ziz wheel and cut it the best I could, just one slice on one side. When I did this it pulled off with ease. I tried heating it, and soaking it in Kroil over night. Nothing worked so I just did the best I could.
