I keep a 98 Tahoe 4wd at a vacation house to tow a boat ... my front bearings went bad I heard them start to go last Saturday. Because the truck is 300 miles from my house I have to have a mechanic fix it in Lake Havasu, AZ. Can anybody pah leeeze give me an idea of what I should expect to pay to replace the front hub and complete the job? I really appreciate this help ... I dont want to go into a shop without asking you guys first. Thank you.

Well lets see; good replacement hubs are gonna be in the $250 a piece range. (I don't advise going with anything other than gm parts, they tend not to wear as well) And They're is really only 3 bolts and the axle nut holding them on, plus two bolts to remove the caliper. It can be done in less than 2.5 hours. So basically about 500 plus labor.

i am the hub expert since i belive ive probally replaced more than anyone else for some odd reason but if you go to GM parts warehouse they will charge you obscene amount of money i think i paid 180 or 250 or somthing just for one yes 1 , auto warehouse (autozone pepboys advance napa ect...) they vary in price ranges but almost always cheaper than GM ive replaced six hubs on this truck so i know a bit haha, now i recently purchased one off of ebay (NEW) for 50 somthing bucks , now honestly i couldnt tell the difference quality longevity anything the one i got off ebay will be the best one if it last another 2 months . In my expierence but stay away from GM here if you wanna go semi safe go with autozone i believe they have a 1 year replacement on those parts the others dont carry that warrenty on the hubs anymore unless thats changed , or if i were you ebay even if i paid for this twice i still would save money, that is doin them myself

After-market Front Hubs

I just ordered a pair of front hub/bearings for my '96 Tahoe 4x4 from TKO Auto Parts(item number 1087-1359). Price for each was $58.35 plus shipping. The total was $139.50

Amazon sells them thru Precision Automotive(part number 515024) for $61.99 each plus shipping.

O'R-----'s Auto Parts sells their in-house brand for $134.99 each(probably the same hub that Precision Automotive sells for $61.99, has same part number).

MYGMPartsStore.com has three hub assy's for $246.38 to $366.24 ea.

These are simple hub/bearing assemblies, not rocket science. From the reviews I've read, the fit and finish of the Chinese made units is good, and should be just as serviceable as the $250+ OEM alternative.

unknown at this time.
Still cheap quality. Go to rock auto and get a moog unit $150 that is about as good as you can get and that is the moog 515024. Double check application but MOOG is top quality chit.
