I have a 97 Tahoe and I am about to do the fuel injection upgrade and I am also going to put a new fuel pump on. Do I have to buy the whole fuel pump assembly of can I just buy a new fuel pump and install it in the old assembly? The price is less than half for just the fuel pump.

You probably could Andy. However, everyone I know, including mechanics working on their own cars, choose to replace the whole assy.
Considering what a pain in the ass job it is I would do the whole thing.

If you have access to a welder, while the tank is out you could cut and make a removable hatch in the body so you don't have to drop the tank in the future.

Definitely not carbureted, unless he had a modified setup to begin with. Anyways, I think he meant that he's going to upgrade his existing fuel injection system.

But yeah, I agree, it would probably be better to just do the whole assembly. Its such a pain in the ass, you might as well do it all while you already have access.

unknown at this time.
Longstand he was refering to the fuel injection spider assy upgrade. It was redesigned for know issues and caused gm to warranty the vehicle against the problem for an extended period of time. It would either dump to much or little fuel that when the computer was specifying.
