First time I heard a fuel pump whine today. How long do I have? I have a camping trip this weekend, not too far, but will be towing a travel trailer.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for: But nothings guaranteed. Could fail in an hour, could go 5 years. My last vehicle got a bit of fuel pump whine in 2013. Sold it 2 and a half years ago, still running without touching the pump.

On the other hand, the 'hoe's pump went out without making a peep. Pump began to fail after long drives, would need to pull over and let everything cool. That interval became shorter and shorter until I replaced it.

So... yeah.. that's about as specific as I can be. If you're worried about it, replace it. It's not that hard if you have a jack and some stands. Can be done with basic hand tools. As to your question, can you go camping and be guaranteed no failure? Who knows. You feeling lucky? :p
