My fuel pump crapped out on my 1999 2-door Chevy Tahoe. I have been on multiple websites to find a new one and they all have the wrong connector for the fuel pump from the outside of the tank. All of the one that I have seen have a 4-wire flat connector but mine has a 2-wire square shaped connector to the fuel pump. I really want an AC Delco fuel pump, not some ************* from China that will crap out in 6 months. Anybody else run in to this issue? Anybody have an AC Delco part number?

@915_Tahoe should be able to get you the OEM part number with the last 8 of your VIN.

That being said, is there a chance that your fuel pump isn’t original and someone in the past changed the harness?

Unlikely. It has 70k on the odometer and completely original. The harness is original and not butchered. Thanks for the lead.

A lot of parts websites allow you to enter your VIN to find parts. Once you find the right part number, google search for best prices.

I'm seeing both on ACDelco's website.

This is odd. Your fuel pump and sending unit assembly should have two connectors on the top of it. One is for pump power and sending unit signal the other is the tank pressure sensor. If neither harness connector (from truck side) is four wire, then I'm stumped. Many of the new pump and sending unit assemblies come with a new flat 4 wire connector that must be spliced into the original harness. I'm sure you have seen these, thus the questions. Brainstorming here... maybe your truck came with the diesel truck wiring harness for the fuel pump. Just a guess. Keep us posted. Good luck.

The cube-shaped connector with the 4 pin slots in a square pattern is an old style that was problematic. The pins were too small (as in borderline functional) to pass the current required by the fuel pump. When the pump got a little aged and began pulling more current, this exceeded the capacity of the pins and that connection got hot and burned, further reducing the current it could pass which further starved the pump motor for power which made it pull more amps and run hotter... and the cycle continues until the connection totally burned up or the pump motor burned up.

It was upgraded to the flat 4-pin connector. Replacement pumps, both factory and aftermarket should come with the new connector and it's mate with a pigtail of wires and weathertight butt splices. I still preferred to solder and heat-shrink them when I changed them.

A 99 should have 4 wires in the fuel pump harness, it won't have the flat 4 if it is original but the square plug that needs to be cut off and spliced to the new style flat connector should have 4 pins.
