My new to me Yukon XL has some form of a fuel leak. I am getting under the vehicle in a few minutes to see what's going on, but as I understand it, there are three line: send, return, and EVAP.

Does anyone have a fuel system diagram that labels which line is what? I am thinking it is probably the send line, being it only seems to leak when the fuel pump is running, and immediately after it starts running (like priming the system to start), but I won't know for sure until I get under it.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I noticed the smell, then I saw it dripping and confirmed the smell was in fact fuel. The drip was about mid-vehicle while it was idling.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum from Oregon. I went ahead and looked up at ALLDATAdiy.com, the set up on my 02 and hopefully it is close enough for your search.

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Thanks! I just added it to my signature, I appreciate the tip!

So as I mentioned, this is a new car to me, and did not come with any repair records (ugh!)...so I am really starting from scratch trying to figure stuff out on this one.

I did get under it, and it does not look like the fuel is coming from a line, unless sit is directly above the fuel tank. As soon as I started the vehicle, I could smell the gas. However, it was not dripping. While I was under the car, I did see the residue from the gas that had been dripping previously.

So my assumption is that it is either the fuel pump assembly, or one of the lines as they come and go from the fuel pump. I did call a mechanic I used to use and he quoted me $650+. He said the challenge with this particular problem is that if it is the pump assembly, the lines will get stuck and damaged, and you end up having to replace them as well.

The tech is right. Something that old and brittle is likely going to have problems during disassembly. It is the way it is. The likely leak source is just above the tank. Did the link I sent you help at all?
