Fuel tank lock ring install issues

I think it's fine as long as the ring is compressing the gasket. The old gasket may have lost some of its thickness, or the new one could be a bit thicker.

The right tool for the job makes a big difference! As the right parts also do. Old Aged gasket rings sometimes really difficult to compress.
