wondering what the normal long term fuel trims are for a stock 05 hoe. i ran my t app on i today for the first time and its on the lean side, not a + 16 indicating a vac leak, more like + 3 to 6 ish, it did flash a -2.3 one time on deceleration but that was as rich as it got.

from all my 3800 tuning ive learned you want trims to be on the neg side like a -5 at idle and cruising is perfect, pos numbers are kinda frowned upon even tho rule of thumb is plus or neg 5% is safe. the short term is fighting the lean condition with it running in the neg numbers mostly, that should be as close to zero as possible at idle.

over all it seems to run just fine nice and smooth, at idle vac manifold is 20, so that kinda helps rule out a vac leak. maybe crape dup injectors? or just another crap gm based tune they use?

my brothers got a 05 yukon, hes got a black bear in truck tune. his trims are always -5 idle and cruising.

hpt is next on my mod list. cant do jack with out a tuner in hand. to bad DHP is only a w body tuner. ive gotten damn good at that old ass technology lol

I think they're all supposed to be at or near zero. Mine are between -1 and -3 with the right bank being slightly more rich than the left bank of cylinders. I suspect the right side cat as I'm always getting a P0430.

So you used to play with the 3800 Buicks? Which motors?

i need to set up my t ap for the truck, so i can see both o2's. thinking they might be lazy. this one owner truck seemed like they took ok care of it being ive put maybe a 1000 miles on it and the oils still clear/clean on the dip stick, dealer did a oil change, nice of them really, most could give a crap. but little by little stuffs showing its self. like its brakes, they just slapped pads on it for 120,000 miles, rotors were trashed, fronts had new pads on there,,,,,hacks.

i have a 98 regal GS, came with a l67, the low comp supercharged engine. i blew that up, uncle chip showed up and well trash.

so its now got a 110,000 mile l36 hi comp block ported l67 heads, ported lim, full size ic, 1.95 yella terra roller rockers headers with a 2.8 pulley and a aem meth kit. making about 12-13 psi.

not to long ago i blew up its tranny again, so a i got a full rebuilt tranny with every upgrade there is but hard parts, like a chain and input shaft, cause that stuff was another 800 bucks.

im toying with finding a used na engine and tranny dropping it in the regal and selling it, then drop my combo in a fiero. im a lank at 6'6, so that turns into nothing but a track toy. be hard thing to do being the regals got a solid shell still. not that its worth all that much, my mods cost more then the cars worth, not to mention all the new parts its got on it.

Ultimate sleeper!

I always admired those cars, used to play with the turbocharged Buicks, but we needed minivans for our growing family and the cars were too small. GM made a huge mistake IMO going with the 60 degree V6 when the 3800s in any form ran rings around them in reliability, performance and fuel economy. Our family did put near 200k on an Olds Ciera with the 3300 and that car started and ran everyday for the twelve years it was in our family and all we did was oil changes and air filters.

if you look up gm's top 10 engines ever made, the 3800 made that list. they take a pretty damn good beating.

now that 3100 and 3400, i cant stand those, lim gaskets and your taking most of the top end apart to get to em. kinda dumb set up, lim and head gaskets fail all the time on them too.

i bought that car with 212,000 on it, now the bodys got 242,000. theres not much thats not been fixed, replaced, or just touched for one reason or another over the last 8 years.

pretty funny how after driving the tahoe for a few weeks, then hop in the regal, its a damn sports car now, the hoes a boat for sure lol

the other sad part is the regal makes as much HP as the v8 in the tahoe. and its missing two pistons lmao. stout little v6 it is, takes mods well too if tuned for em.

Single digit LTFT trims I wouldn't worry about. That's pretty normal, sometimes can even depend on weather and fuel used. Usually on the 3800s (Did a fair bit of tuning on those myself..johnh on clubgp.. 04 GTP, XP Cam, TOGS etc.) closer trims kept the WOT fueling inline, as well as having a dialed in MAF, much more critical on a boosted engine. If you had a tuner, you could adjust the MAF slightly to correct, but for normal operation it won't hurt anything.

Remember those trims are simply an adjustment to make the A/F ratio close to 14.7:1 during cruise/idle. WOT is a bit different. So just adding a bit of fuel, making up for slightly lean, is just the ECM doing its job.

im ordering a hp tuner this week. my brothers truck feels so much better tuned then mine stock. id get a canned tune, but owning a tuner already makes me frown upon them now. theres nothing better then being able to fine tune the crap out of it.

im sure most of what i feel is the trans tune. (hes stock) its about the only thing you can actually feel and get that instant gratification from.

gonna dump some injector cleaner in the tank see if that helps out any. although it seems to start up, idle and drive just fine. the last owner looks to not done much of real maintenance on it.

all but oil changes maybe, cause ive put about 1000 miles on it and the oils still clear/clean looking.
