So did I just see that y'all prefer the G4 to the G5? I'm having trouble with my right tail light so I'm looking to buy a new set of something...

I prefer the G5's because they look exactly like the escalade tails.

G4s have had various problems over the years.

Water condensation and hyper flashing

Mind also had poor construction overall...... plastic debris inside light.

G5s are great though.

Thing is they are made all by the same company. Eagle eyes

What are peoples impressions of how these lights function?

I bought my Denali earlier this year with a set of aftermarket LED tails already installed but you cant tell much difference between the running/brake/turn lights.

Also interested in how the black housing version looks since my truck is black.

Any input is appreciated.

I haven't had time to take better pics, you can't really tell but there's a big difference between the lights functions. I'm sure someone will respond with better pics soon and pics of the smoked version which do look good on darker color trucks to me.

This question is old now, but for anyone looking for an answer in the future...

The G4s follow the contours of the Tahoe/Yukon appliqués. The G5s do NOT follow the contours of those appliqués -- they follow the contours of Esky appliqués. Can you run the G5s without matching Esky appliqués? Yes. Will it look right? No. Should you care? I think so -- but some people don't.

If you go for the G5s, which you should, 'cause they look a ton better than the G4s, then go all in and get Esky appliqués, too. If you're not going all in, then just get the G4s.

No I think regardless u should get G5 not bc of looks only which yes it looks a shit ton better. But functionality, build quality, less issues, and are a stock replica versus some made up extremely aftermarket looking tail light. Especially the bottom chrome piece inside the tail that looks realllly after market. Yes the lines one line up but your actual tail light won't look Terrible lol.
