If I didn't know any better I'd say the gas is sweating out. I think someone already tried to patch this.

Can it be fixed someway?

it leak all the time? sides wet too?

or only after its been filled up? some times the locking ring that holds the pump in place rots away and the pump pops up and gas can then spill out.

That looks like it got punctured on that spot and repaired. Repair held for some time. You may be able to get an epoxy or something to hold for a while. Could hold for as long as you own the truck, maybe not. I don't think I would personally feel great about another patch job. I would vote for replacing the tank, if it were mine.

I am not looking to spend your money, but...
This might be the time to assess whether you might be due for a fuel pump assembly.

It may be easier to deal with your leak by replacing the tank with another good one and put a new fuel pump while the new tank is going in. Two birds with one stone.

By new tank, I mean to include a clean used one as an option, if new ones are too expensive.

Plenty of these in the Upulls, but make sure you get one for Flex Fuel or non-Flex fuel, whatever you have, since they can be different. Obviously you need one with an intact fuel module mounting ring, not rusted out on top.

It does seem to be wet on the side, but I'll have to figure out how to get a closer look.

Is it obvious if you have a flex fuel model? I've got a 2001 Yukon.
Also, is it safe to say if the mounting ring is rusted bad the whole tank is toast? I saw this guy's tank ring and it seems it wasn't installable.

Gonna be interesting to find another. Couple of the upulls I called said they drill their tanks to drain em:banghead:

my brothers lock ring rotted out and the tank leaked out the top. i just did my pump a few months back and bought a new ring just to have incase i needed it. now i have a new spare ring lol

spray the tank down with brake cleaner. that will dry it up and take the shine off it. should be able to get a clear view of the drip/run marks then.

There should be a small label inside the fuel filler door that says if it can run E85; if it can, that's FF. I'm not sure, but look at the rear of the fuel tank to see if there's a small (~1"?) hose connection to the tank, to the passenger side of the filler tube:

Decals can fall off or get destroyed...

This fact sheet from the state of MI was originally posted in 2006.
So, it is current up to 2007 model year... Maybe the additional information could save somebody from having to crawl under a tank.

The first E85 model year listed on the sheet was the 2002 MY Chevy Tahoe/Suburban.

For Chevy Tahoe/Suburban...

The 8th VIN letter (or number) that is E85 compatible is shown as:
Letter Z for MY 2002-06
Number 3 or 0 for MY 2007

Take a look at CL or FB Marketplace for part-out vehicles... Another option.

Or the top of the actual fuel pump and or lines is actually rotted through and leaking. I just went through this crap myself. Gat under there with a shop light and a cell phone and try to get pics of the top of the tank around the area of the fuel pump.
