Gear changing question.

whenever i`ve changed gears i always get new axle,pinion and carrier bearings and axle seals. It makes sense to change them all while you have it apart.

Most places sell a differential rebuild kit that includes most or all of the parts.

I agree with Sas... If you are gonna do gears the whole diff is ripped down; just rebuild it and have a fresh rear. Just remeber if you have 4wd you need to do both front and rear.

a camera to take pics and do a tutorial haha

i put in a powertrax locker in my chevelle recently and used that gasket stuff for the first time thats like past i guess you would say that replaces the gasket and it has worked good so far

Get a master rebuild kit while you're in there. You have to unclip and remove the axles anyway, so you might as well replace the axle bearings and seals while you have it apart. Master kits will come with all new bearings, races, shims, seals, and ususally marking compound to help set the new gears. IMO, it wouldn't make any sense not to replace the bearings and seals while you have it all apart anyway, unless it's a fairly low mileage rearend.
