The OE tunes have gotten VERY good...better than others....

The C8 LT2 is a real example

How about GM making it easy and letting modifiers sign away their warranty rights in exchange for an "unlock" code, officialized with digital and written contract, etc.? With just about everything (even brakes and suspension) being electronically connected to the power- and drivetrain computers, GM would be off the hook for just about everything outside of items like trim pieces and some hard parts.

The EPA would sue them in an instant..... Not to mention the bad press they would get.

I think @vcode brings a valid point. The EPA squeezes auto manufacturers to meet stringent standards. If those manufacturers made it easy for the end user to circumvent the tuning they worked so hard to make compliant, then the EPA would have to go after them as well. Yeah, part of the agreement to get GM to release all liability could be that it must be a race car only and not operated on the highway. But, how are they gonna efficiently enforce that? To make their battle easy, they could just outlaw custom tuning altogether rather than tackle it case-by-case. Or, like they're already trying to do, kill certain types of racing.
