Video below of my "Ordeal". Maybe I'm in the minority, but $1400 an hour in labor and $42 for a screwdriver put a burr under my saddle.

Disclaimer: I am a layman. I have no idea what I'm doing or what the right words are. If I have misspoke, called something by the wrong name, misspelled a word, or otherwise not been perfect. Please forgive me. I am merely frustrated with what things cost and trying to share my experience with others.

2021 GMC Yukon Denali

• Error: SD Card is not functioning properly
• General Inaccuracy: Please restart the Nav app to dismiss the error.

GMC Dealership:

• $469.82 for parts
o Receptacle = $55.86
o SD Card = $413.96
• $344.94 in labor
• $41.39 in supplies

Total cost to fix: $898.32.

OEM Parts from EBAY:
• Receptacle = $29.23
• SD Card = $74.99

Time Spent DIY:
• 15 Minutes researching online and finding a supplier with a good return policy
• 12 Minutes using a screwdriver to pop out the receptacle, disconnect 3 wiring harnesses, reconnect the wiring harnesses to the new receptacle, and insert a new SD Card.

Now that I know where to go and buy the part and have done this one time, I could do everything again in less than 10 minutes.

I want the dealership to make money and the people working there to make a good salary and benefits. I have no problem with a 4x markup on the SD card and Receptacle. But the $344.94 for labor and $41.39 for “Supplies”! It’s not okay; it is taking advantage of a captive, ignorant customer base—me included. I was told by the dealer that it is best to have a certified technician do this repair because the software is quite complicated, and non-dealership repair centers would have trouble. Furthermore, if a nondealer broke anything during the installation, such as the nav system or onboard software, they could not fix it, which could cost me even more.

I have an extended warranty on this car, which would have covered everything EXCEPT the SD Card, which is considered an upgradeable item because it would come with new maps and functions. I would have paid $413.96 for a new SD card, and the extended warranty would have covered the receptacle, labor, and supplies. So, I saved $300 by doing this myself, and I saved the extended warranty company $500.

The labor and supplies cost for this repair are unreasonable. The idea of “Fear” that a non-dealer would not be able to perform this repair is misleading at best.
Ask questions, do some research, and don’t fear a screwdriver.

Nice, welcome to the diy side. I do agree the quote is a scam but there's idiots that pay that which is why they even have the guts to try moves like that. It's really bad in my area, lots of people with more money than brains paying scam rates so they become the norm. There's a scammy shop near me that does nothing but put bed liners and that racks on new wranglers and f-150s all day and they seem to do great. People wana have their hard core wrangler off road rig but can't bolt a rack or winch on lol. You've made the world a little bit better by not falling for the scam.

You probably didn't even need to replace the receptacle and saved another $30, probably just a corrupted SD. Some of these repairs are highway robbery when it comes to the simple stuff and like it was said above, throw a crazy price at people and see if they take it.

I have the same issue currently including having an extended warranty that won't cover it although it is clearly a known issue with GMC. Do you mind providing a link as to which SD card replacement you purchased? The dealership today told me it would be $430 just for the part!
