So our family hauler has around 174k on it, but we had a rebuilt motor in it since 135k. We had the A/C fixed, plugs, wires, and coolant temp, and radiator replaced as well.
Knowing we had a several road trips we bought a 2020 Suburban with 20k. We are on the fence now, should we sell the Yukon or should I just keep it. My daughter has been driving my 2005 Accord and it has 180k on it, but we are looking to get her something this week. So the thought now would be sell the Accord. I was kind of thinking of also selling the Yukon and maybe getting a 4Runner with less miles, but a little older, maybe a 06'.

The Yukon is a known quantity, you know what it needs and doesn't need. It's also a MUCH safer vehicle than either an Accord or a 4Runner. Extra money spent on gas is the price we pay for safety.

Recently pulled up on an accident here on a local street. Honda Accord turning hit by a pickup truck mostly head-on. Speed limit is 45 mph, no idea what they were doing. But the accord driver died at the scene. Found out the next day the passenger died at the hospital. Nothing happened to the pick up driver. The accord really did not hold up well at all, and the end result is tragic. My daughter isnt driving yet, but when the time comes, safety will be the only consideration for a car after seeing that. Give your daughter the Yukon. Its a tank.

We do traveling gymnastics with my daughter , many road trips. I always remind myself when I am annoyed at the MPG how safe we are in this tank. Just did the AFM/DOD delete on the ECU. Picked up 2 mpg !!! I was just another bonus. So now I can stop complaining!! LOL

Good luck

This gives us a lot to think about. We were thinking of getting her a Rav4 but after taking a test drive it seemed no safer than an Accord, we may get her a 4Runner or Tahoe, obviously used. Still on the fence on what to do with the Yukon, I mean it is paid for.

Can someone tell me about AFM/DOD delete on the ECU

There are a number of options to turn AFM off in the software. You can get a device like a Range dongle that plugs into your ODB port. (Like $175 new, less than that used).

Another option is a device like the Diablo Predator 2. (Like $360, used less but tricky to assure it will work after being used by others).

I have read about guys that you send your ECU to who will flash it with AFM off for like $50.

Finally, probably the head and shoulders winner, having Black Bear do a tune for you. Also the most expensive option but many benefits beyond AFM being turned off. Improved mileage, better shifting of the tranny, etc.

On the 4Runner idea. If you are rock crawling, the 4Runner is a great option. Other than that, and perhaps a little easier in a tight parking lot, I see little benefit. Parts are very expensive, mileage is only slightly better, the cabin is much tighter, Japanese vehicle seats just suck, etc.

My sister owns the 4runner. Not a pleasant truck. She spoends alot reapiring it too. Gas mileage is no better that the Yukon. Off road I am sure its better than a Yukon, but thats it. Terrible ride quality. You couldnt give me her truck.

I vote to keep the Yukon!

I have seen some extremely nasty accidents in South Florida and elsewhere through the years and in some cases people were decapitated when a larger vehicle collided with a smaller one.
