I have a friend if mine that has an axle that was under a GMT800 or NBS truck. He bought the axle for the drum brakes to put on his truck so he could run a 15" rear wheel. Once he pulls off the drums he will swap out the complete disc setup. Will I be able to put that axle in place of the axle under my 1996 4WD Tahoe now? I am lowering my truck from it's current 3" over stock ride height and upgrading all the suspension and swapping the wheels and tires for some 18" billets on a 295 series tire. My goal is to build a Tahoe with a LQ9 and a TVS1900 with plenty of boost, ported heads and a mild cam that handles very very well and will have all kinds of traction once in 4WD and will get better MPG than if I swapped it to a AWD Astro or Silverado SS transfer case. I would like to see a 550hp LS motor in it, and be able to drive on the interstate in 2wd, and when I go to the track put it in 4WD or if I need to have the added traction (pulling a boat out of the water or street racing) be able to use 4WD. I need to know if the rear will bolt in, and if I can use the rear Silverado disc brakes and parking brake assembly in place of the factory setup.

An axle swap shouldn't be hard. You got leaf springs tho and I think the nbs has sprigs back there. If that's the case you gotta convert to whatever you like better. If its led spring then easy as bolting the leafs on axle and hooking the lines and maybe an adapter for the drive shaft

unknown at this time.
the spring perches will have to match and possible changes in the brake balancing system maybe needed as well as parking brake connections.
