Next week, I'm going to be pointing the wheels northward to the great white. :D I've got the Yukon almost ready, just need to make a cardboard winterfront and change the oil to some of that 0w30 that Mobil 1 makes. The forecast is looking to be cold while I'm travelling, with the bad weather right now, which is good, cold means dry and calm weather.

Of course, pics to follow.

Thats exciting man! What are you doing and where are you going in Alaska? I've always wanted to go there and backpack Denali State Park.

I'm headed to Fairbanks to drive a fancy tour bus across the whole north region. And the backpacking in Denali, in a word: epic. Did that two years ago, was quite the adventure.

That's awesome. Sounds fun too! Hopefully your not carting around a bunch of old people around who have to stop and take pictures of every damn thing.

I've backpacked Glacier National 2 summers ago, been to the Boundary Waters 4 times, Philmont, backpacked the Tetons and a good amount of the App trail. I think Denali will be next on the list.

Pretty much just summed up my job

It's a riotous :party33: with a bunch of groaning, moaning old folk. But it's fun and I enjoy it.

Dont worry about changing your oil. keep it at 5 30 and call it good. Probably dont need the card board either but thats just me!

How long is the trip gonna be?

IDK, I'd go with 0w30. -40 and stuff breaks. plastic, metal, everything just breaks....

Broken cam shaft while starting at -32 running 10w30 oil. Ask me how I know...I've been there...

For the cost of an oil change, I'd go with safer rather than sorrier...

Let me be the first to say... 'safe driving'...but I guess that goes without saying being as your a professional driver and all. anyways stay safe, and keep the rubber side down.

Definitely watch that ice!

I have never had trouble with 5w30, been living in an area with very cold and long winters for a while now. This last week has seen several days with -30 and -40 temps.

Let your truck warm up a bit. You will be able to tell if you are pushing it too hard.

Be safe!

Yes, I do need the cardboard, my truck is kinda cold blooded in that at only 0, it won't fully warm up at highway speeds. Only when I get into town does it warm up. But when I'm expecting -20 -30 and even -40 temps, plus a month of similar cold in Fairbanks, all highway driving is going to be chilly. I know that at -20 on the highway, with the defroster going, I'll need gloves and a hat to help ward off the chill. And I have had my cooling system checked and serviced, and it is in top shape.

The trip will be approx 2500 miles start to finish.

It knocks in anything below 10f with 10w, 5w let's it go down to 0, after that, I might pull the fuel pump relay for the first crank to get the juices around before I start it for the day.
