Good front carrier bearing write up?

I've got a grinding, whurring noise coming from underneath the front of my '06 Tahoe. I'm going to jack it up tomorrow to check the front wheel bearing and u-joints. I'm pretty positive its the carrier bearing in the diff though. Anybody know where there is a good write up on how to do this? I've looked and can't find one.

Also, should I change the races at the same time I do the bearings?

I'd like to know the same thing. Pretty sure the bearings are going bad on my denali as well. I've searched here and on the net and haven't found anything too detailed.
