Got a second GMC Yukon Denali, 2007

2013 and a 2007, Both have 180K miles

Got the 2013 a few months ago, am pretty happy with it. The ideal SUV. Lots of room, sold the 3rd row seats. One owner, garaged, well maintained. Well the front ends needs lower ball joints but while at it, will replace other front end components.

Just got a second one, 2007. The 2007 needed some maintenance. It drives straight unlike 2013, and no AFM components but needed lots of other things - the moonroof drains were plugged, needed new starter, the ground wire for the brake lights was corroded, a hard to troubleshoot repair, O2 sensor.. but all that's resolved. Nice ride, the size of my old 2008 5.3L Tahoe except better in every way. I am going to assume it also got the 4L60E tranny. The PO told me he had the tranny replaced at a shop with a low-mileage transmission. If that's true, it makes up for all the other things. My 2008 Tahoe tranny went to 265K miles with no issues and was still running when sold it.

I think the only thing questionable about the Denali line is all the power gizmos. Adds complexity, cost and weight and drain on the battery. There is just no reason at all why the tailgate cannot be opened manually, the old fashioned way without the power assist, or the front seats. I think they did it just to be competitive with the other brands.

I just did my first upgrade on the 2013 Denali XL, added a supersized battery, the Walmart "platinum" line. It was supposed to be for the newer Yukon/Burb gen, not 2013 and it barely fit but I made it fit, had to unbolt the overflow tank, install the battery and also loosen the ground wire to the engine block, change its angle a bit and re-tighten it. Works nicely. There is actually room there for that extra long battery, It's the install that's not as straight-forward.
I think I just get a bit more CCA.

Ah, got it. You are right. There is that M mode which can select the gear.

It's for my son, his first car.
Wish I had a car this nice when I started driving. My first ride had a 3-speed tranny and an AM radio.

I wanted parts and knowledge base compatibility between two vehicles and that does it. I will probably tune both PCMs, mine to tune out AFM stuff and his just to get a bit performance. I did it with the 5.3L and was impressed with Diablo tuner.

Is the ‘13 AWD too? I ask because GM kept the Denali detuned to 385hp until ‘09 when they up’d Denali to 403hp with same tq. It’d be interesting to see what a free 0-60 app on a phone would tell you.

All Denali got the 6L80 6SP in this Gen. If you got a new trans than you eliminated a huge weak link in the 08 Denali trans…


We sold our 08 when a slight 2-3 slip randomly started. Purchase a preloved 09-14 Tahoe, Yukon or Esky OnStar module off eBay for the 08. Obviously O/S is dead but it’ll permanently add factory BT to the truck. Have fun with the twins.

My 2013 is AWD.

The Sierra Denali in my sig was purchased for my daughter back in 2015 when she was a junior in high school. She learned to drive and took her road test in my Suburban, and I wanted her to have the same familiar platform, but no AFM, so the Denali was the only choice.

I wouldn't have gotten it for her if I was concerned that she'd do dumb stuff. Never had an accident or speeding ticket.

Girls learning to drive are not connected to the fuel supply like the guys are. I can’t really understand why young male drivers wear their vehicle like an exoskeleton of a transformer robot.

Even all the tween male eBike owners in the city are taking on vehicles by throwing slices of velveeta cheese or those popping tissue wrapped firecrackers at car windows.

If you know your kid is in touch with their ego and aware that their actions have consequences, a full size GM w/ a 6.2L is a good choice for defensive protection vs a two door sedan or coupe. At 17 I opted for the ‘66 mustang with a/c (that worked) and the 200cid I-6 vs the 289 w/o a/c. That move probably saved my life a few times.
