...Should you let the Polisher roll over these areas as well or should you do these areas by hand. Same question applies for the door molding & rear hatch area above the license plate. My Door molding is all black. Is it ok for me to let the PC Polisher roll over the molding or should I be taping of the entire strip and then going over that area by hand? Also what about the pilars coming down from the roof to the hood as well as the aplliques in the rear...-Greg
I happen to own the Griot's brand of RO polisher, but it is not much different from the PC. A random-orbital polisher like the PC won't burn through the paint on edges and curves like a direct drive rotary buffer can if you aren't careful or experienced. So you can work the PC's pad over the flat areas, curved areas, and edges without concern of damaging the paint. As for trim, it is more a question of avoiding areas that you don't want polish or wax to contact...like black plastic parts, otherwise it is not a big issue here either. Badging and emblems with sharp edges could gouge the foam pads so I avoid these. I generally use the polisher to within about a half inch of badging and hand polish/wax the rest. The first few times I used it, I worked the 6" pad over everything...hood, top, pillars, bumpers, etc. but eventually I got a 4" backplate and pads to use on the smaller areas for more control. That is more of a convenience than necessity though... Remember to spritz your pads with detail spray before applying the polish or wax product and a little product goes a long way...I usually squeeze out a very thin "X" of product across the face of the pad, stopping about an inch from the edge (+)
Enjoy!
