I just joined the forum, and I also just bought my first Tahoe - an '04, 4x4, leather, 2 rows, 79,000 miles. I'm excited about the purchase and looking forward to learning some things on here. I live outside of Nashville, TN - hopefully there is someone else from the same area.
I've got a couple of immediate issues/questions that I need help with. I'm going to start searching the threads and seeing if I can find some of these answers, but if any of you can point me in the right direction or can provide guidance it would be appreciated:
1. I have no check engine light on, but I cannot pass the local emissions test because the readiness monitors for o2, cat, and evap are not ready. The battery was replaced before I picked up the truck so I realize that the computer got reset. However, I have already put about 700 miles on it and can't seem to figure out why those particular monitors won't reset. Any ideas? I called Chevy and they told me to try resetting the computer again.
2. The truck starts and runs great on a cold start, but occassionaly after it has warmed up, been turned off, and started a short time later, the RPM's dip around 400, and it acts like it might die but never does. I'm not sure if I've got a significant issue, or I just need to clean something.
3. The tires on the truck are Good Year Wrangler A/Ts, 265 75 R16, but the sticker on the door shows that the factory tires we 265 70 R16 - what difference if any am I going to find with these tires - it is riding on factory rims.
4. The "Change Engine Oil" message has been on, and I attempted to follow the directions to turn it off last night, but it came on again this morning. Does the oil life monitor really look at actually quality of oil, or just count drive cycles? Anyone else have trouble getting this to turn off?
5. Finally (for now), the truck has aftermarket dual exhaust. This is the only thing on the truck that I can find that isn't stock. I really need to climb under and try to see what kind it is, but I have no idea where to begin. Should I find a logo directly on a muffler? It looks to be a professionally done job, good pipes, no rust, appropriate hangers, etc., but I would love to know the specs so I can find out a little more about what it is doing for my performance good or bad.
Thanks folks! Hopefully I will find some of my answers as I search, but I lookg forward to getting any replies and hearing your opinion!
