Really haven't needed to. Have towed campers at high altitude and run it around town in high 90° heat with no issues. It would be a nice upgrade, though!

I have all the parts other than the actual fans. Need To do this soon!!

My only question is the thread you smoothed out. Why are there threads there if there’s no use for them :hmm:

As the others said, it's for a clutch fan. It's not worth redesigning a pulley without the threads since the same water pump fits the older engines with the clutch fan (1999-), all the way through the 2014 engines.

You can buy caps to cover the threads. But, they're plastic or urethane so, eventually, it'd dry rot, crack and fly off the pulley. This was my possibly-semi-ghetto-but-free-and-immediate solution to something that was never a problem in the first place. I felt productive.

I parked it out in the driveway so I could work on my work van in the shop. I kept looking at it and realized how incomplete it looked without the grille inserts. I left them out to make it easier to install the trans cooler, but that project will still be a while. So I went ahead and installed that black grille I bought so long ago.

Before:

Then, I used some #0000 steel wool to scuff the water pump pulley so it'd match the other pulleys:
