I got a call on my way home last night and I was doing around 25 mph or so. I nailed it and the truck downshifted and took off but then dropped off and took off again.

It was almost like it had hit the rev limiter cut off and then back on again. I had never had that happen but didn't know what to look for. its an 04 Denali awd.

I no nothing about how the 4wd drive works and didn't know if it had to catch up or whatever. not like I was spinning tires or anything as I was coming down the highway.

I just didn't want the tranny to fall out.

You could see if there's any transmission codes set.

Is everything else up to par? Fluid levels? Is there a check engine light?

Did you have it in 4 wheel drive?

I would be looking at the engine first. Bogging down can have many causes. I'd check for PCM and TCM history codes and if there are none just drive it and see what happens from here on out.
