They are a china knockoff, but members luv'em. There are thread(s) here about buying and using a Tech2. There's even a spreadsheet here with the location off the folks that have one. I'm not one of them (yet).

The VCX Nano comes with the knockoff Tech2 with no subscription and works flawlessly.
