I learned my 07 Denali has a 26 gallon tank but after running it way into "E" three times its only taken 21 and change gallons. Now I let it go down again and now the low fuel light has come on and and ive driven it quit a bit.....I am assuming I still have 5 gallons left after it hits "E". IDK

Now it seems I have something rattling rather more of a banging noise in my front rite side. Only hear it when I hit rather large bumps/potholes. Brought it to a local shop near my job and they think its a tie rod, while I felt a little play in it when it was on the lift I dont think that can create such a loud noise. I decided it bring it back to the guy who did the wheel alignement, front tires and f&r brakes and after a few test drives we finally duplicated the noise and he seems to think its the shock/strut. He didnt even notice the tie rod......

I am in the midst of upgrading my warranty to a plan that covers the air shocks but I dont want to be paying deductibles and changing unnecessary parts. Anyone have any ideas? And know of a good shop in the NY metropolitan area?

My 09 Denali gets into the 21 and change if I run it into the E too. An 07 Tahoe and 08 Yukon have the same.

Ok thanks. Thought my guage was off or needed to be recalibrated....I usually dont run my tanks this low but since I just bought this truck I have been paying strict attention to my mileage and gas consumption and trying to confirm it really holds 26 gallons all w/o running out of gas! LOL

I have filled my truck with 24 gallons before. I hit low fuel, drove another 40 miles, then fueled it up. stopped at 22 gallons. Then slowly pumped 2 more until I can see it in the spout. Totaled only like 24 and change. I read somewhere that American cars can drive up to like 80 miles after they say they are "empty," to prevent running out.
Also, beside the point, the fuel pump is in the gas tank, so it's not good to run the tank below 1/4 tank. For future reference.

Really? 1/4 tank seems a bit ridiculous.

I hear ya about running the tank low especially after replacing several pumps in my last truck. In that truck when the lite came on you had about 20 miles left.

So now this truck being only allegedly 26 rather then 30 gallons and the light coming on so early it seems I am getting gas quit often, way to often matter of fact.

I have heard this same thing for years and had my mechanic say the same thing when I had my old truck. Would have assumed they changed the design in the NNBS's

Not arguing with you all, and I would sure hope so. I've been driving for 12 years now, haven't followed this rule, and never had a fuel pump go on me. Guess I've been lucky.
