I walked out to my 2005 Tahoe the other day, I thought I could smell gas but after checking the engine bay and around the unit I could not see any obvious leaks. During the day each time I set out of the truck, I could smell gas and it seemed to becoming from the drivers side in the area of the tank. I decided to stop by my favourite repair shop on the way home and up it up on a hoist to do a more detailed underbody inspection. As I was driving into the shop, gas started spraying out from under the truck. Further investigation found that the outlet line on the fuel pump had ruptured due to rust. I was lucky it happened at low speed, I shutter to think what would have happened on the freeway.See attached photos

Damned, that looks nasty.
Do they use a lot of salt on the roads where you live?

I replaced mine a few months ago because the float went out, and the outlet line popped off when I was driving down the freeway! It was an easy fix the next day but talk about a pain in the ass at 3 in the morning. No one to blame except for myself on that one
