Looking at getting a new Yukon, and I would like most of the aspects of the towing package, but was a little concerned about the gearing change. Does anyone know or have experience if this will reduce my mileage on my normal day to day. I will tow sometimes, but I have the duramax for the big towing jobs. Any insight would be great.

Any gear change will alter the fuel economy numbers claimed by GM as the new cruise will be at a different rpm. But as long as you don't change to a crazy large tire your mpg should not take a substantial hit.

I specifically waited and looked for this package and now have 2500+ miles on mine. I drove a few 3.08 Yukon's and Tahoe's before I bought my 2016 with Max Tow 3:42. My mileage is around 16-17 in town and 22~23 highway running 75~80.

These 6 speed rigs are set up with 5th and 6th both being overdrive and that being said...my 80 MPH cruise is at 2000 RPM. I like the way it feels around town and found that it feels quite a bit more "peppy" than my 2005 Escalade 6.0 LQ-9 did with the 3:73 gearing. Honestly...if we could order the 3:73 I would have done so...but GM is fighting the FED in maintaining that "Cross Corporate" MPG Mileage Average Mandate....so it's not available.

What are the other differences with the max tow package (other than differential and built in brake controller)? tranny cooler? different GVWR?

And tranny cooler and engine oil cooler.

I wouldn't worry about mileage--I just hit 25mpg max and got about 22-23 avg highway with the 3.42's. Launches are sweet too-- it seems as if it climb a wall with enough traction!

If you get the 5.3, I'd suggest the HD tow package. Everything you get for the cost is AWSOME and will likely extend the life of your tranny and engine. I have a 2001 Silverado with 275k miles on the original trans and engine which has the tow package. My 2016 Yukon XL SLT 4x4 has the 3:42s.
