Headlight Assemblies: refinish or replace?

2009 Yukon XL headlight assemblies are severely scratched. I haven't sanded them down yet. Tried rubbing compound but it wasn't enough. Is there a point where they can't be revived?https://postimg.org/image/4hfd1sezj/

No, not really.

Wet sand with 1500 grit paper. Use a spray bottle with water and a little bit of dish soap mixed in.

When the yellow stops coming off the lens then clean them with rubbing alcohol and let them dry completely then spray with a good 2K clear and they will look better than new and should stay that way for 5-10 years as long as you take care of them like you would your paint.

I agree with most of what the above said. But I'd start with 800 then 1000 then 1500 then 2000 then 2500. Use a a detailing spray as lubricant. Or buy the 15 dollar kit from Walmart which has sand paper that attaches to your drill and comes with a compound to use as a lubricant and decent instructions.

Get the 3M headlight restore kit and that should do it.

I tried several DIY methods. Most work somewhat, but never crystal clear, and the results never lasted long. Mine where nasty yellow, and even got my inspection denied by one shop because of them.

A few years ago, I got them done at Sam's Club for $30 or $40 bucks with 5 year warranty! They came out great and still look clear!! I think its a great deal. Haven't been to Sam's in awhile, so not sure if they are still doing this, but worth a shot.
