With a cross country road trip (Louisiana to California) coming up in a few weeks Im not anticipating the "Are we there yet?" from the young ones (4 and 6). So I come here to ask a few questions. What is your opinion on the overhead monitors and headrest monitors? These would stand alone only to be pictured by a HD or some kind of second party item. Idea?

Looking for 2 for now and not looking to break the pocket and still have a decent picture with capability of AUX/USB ports.

Mine somone installed a alpine overhead unit. It's nice and big for the kids, however it blocks half of my rear view mirror. I also have a 2 year old with the car seat In the middle so there goes the other half. I have a rear view mirror with a back up cam that I hard wired to a switch so I can have it on at all times.
If it was my choice, I'd go headset monitors

We like our headrest monitors a lot. Never had overhead monitor to compare to, though

Yeah, Thats what Im worried about, loosing view. However, you inspired a new idea. Hard wiring an overhead camera and splicing it into your rear view/Navi to check on children in the far back. Is it possible?

Yea you can buy a monitor, and buy a back up camera that mounts to your r license plate. Mount that inside and wire it to a switch.

Why does everyone want permanently mounted screens in their trucks?

I have two headrest iPad mounts that our kids use and they can then watch any damn thing they want, including streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, everything.

I'd never hardwire old tech into my expensive ass SUV, but that's just me.

Valid point. If you're wanting to install a game system the iPad is no bueno.

Although, counter-point would be that iPad games are approaching near console quality, so a game system may be completely unnecessary...

Ipad games are nowhere near console quality. Also, if you depend on streaming for content if you have no service you're s.o.l. i have had both, headrest screens are much better.
